The Don Rafael Martín López collection is comprised for aproximaly 13000 banknotes from all around the world, collected during a period of almost 80 years. This collection has gathered thousands of banknotes from some 300 different issuing authorities. All continents are well covered, with a large selection of items from 18th century till 21st century, with special focus given to the first half of the 20th century.

The collection includes a large amount of occupation money (China Albania, Austria, Burma, Denmark, Dutch Indies, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Malaya, Libya, Oceania, Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, Yugoslavia, etc), as well as military issues (Austria, China, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, United States of America), which could fill a thematic auction alone and splendidly complement the banknotes from the WW1 and WW2 periods, providing a very nice whole picture of those years.

The United States of America is described through over 200 exemplars from different periods: colonial currency, free banking era, confederate states, fractional currency and national currency.

Colonial issues are also well represented, particularly British and Commonwealth (Strait Settlements, Malaya, British Borneo, Sarawak, Australia, British Honduras, Ceylon, etc), Portuguese (Angola, Mozambique, Timor, Cabo Verde, St Thomas and Prince) and French (Indochina, African territories and Islands). Provincial issues are not rare to find in the collection either, especially Argentinian. The album includes a modest collection of notgeld, mainly German, Austrian and Spanish.

Particular focus shall be given to the latter, comprising not only pure local emergency money, but also other banknotes issued by a higher authority during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), including a significant set of carton stamp-coins, an emergency issue created by the Republican Government in January 1937, while the National mint created new coins and fractional banknotes.

As a supplement to the whole, the collector included some test, advertising and fantasy notes, along with a selection of Spanish checks and vouchers.
